Message from the Author,

| Dear
Single Mother,
Fifteen
years ago I was a single mother with no job, little education,
and five children to raise. I felt frightened and alone. I
wanted a better life for my kids but really didn't know how
to get it. So I started asking questions. I read almost every
self- help book in the library, and I began to travel the
road to self-reliance. I searched for an organization that
helped single mothers like me but never found one.I made lots
of mistakes along the way, but giving up wasn't an option
so I just traveled on. I went back to school and earned a
bachelor's degree in communications. I got a job as an editor,
taught community school, published a magazine for three years
and spent six years working for the Utah Legislature. |
|
I
remarried, earned a master's degree in public administration
while working full time, and developed a program that I hoped
would someday help other single mothers. I wanted to make
their path smoother than mine.
Today,
I am living my dreams. My children are building successful
lives for themselves. I am married to a caring, supportive
man. I am co-founder of the Bringing Hope to Single Moms Foundation,
and every day I get to help single mothers find their paths
to self-reliance.
I
wrote and produced a four-cassette tape album titled The Road
to Self-reliance because I receive mail from single mothers
around the world struggling to provide for their children
and searching for a better life. I want to help by sharing
the lessons I learned. On the tapes, I talk about letting
go of the past and creating a plan to build the kind of life
you want, getting more job skills and a career that pays enough
to support your family, taking charge of your finances, finding
the resources you need, and building stronger relationships.
The road to self-reliance isn't an easy path to take, but
it is an exciting and rewarding adventure. You'll be glad
you made the trip. |
